Healthy communities need healthy ecosystems. We rely on our rivers in Washington state to provide clean water, recreation, fishing, beauty, and serenity. We also count on them to support the abundant native plant and animal species that are vital to our community ecosystems.
But our river, their watersheds, and their ecosystems have been under attack for decades, threatening our way of life in the Pacific Northwest. Current laws don’t do enough, or we wouldn’t be constantly on the defense when species are threatened and ecosystems are on the verge of collapse.
It’s time go on the offensive and take back nature on nature’s behalf, and on our behalf. It’s time to use direct democracy and the power of the citizens’ initiative to create healthy river ecosystems and healthy communities.
TAKE ACTION FOR YOUR RIVER
The following is a list of Washington cities who have adopted the power of initiative, and who have a major river watershed. If you are a resident of one of these cities, you are encouraged to use our Citizen Initiative Toolkit to run a citizen initiative to protect your watershed.
